Conduct investigations related to suspected violations of Federal, State, or local laws to prevent or solve crimes. Exclude "Private Detectives and Investigators" (33-9021).

OJT: Employees in these occupations usually need one or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations.
Tasks: Prepare reports that detail investigation findings. Obtain and verify evidence by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses or by analyzing records. Identify case issues and evidence needed, based on analysis of charges, complaints, or allegations of law violations. Investigate organized crime, public corruption, financial crime, copyright infringement, civil rights violations, bank robbery, extortion, kidnapping, and other violations of federal or state statutes. Record evidence and documents, using equipment such as cameras and photocopy machines.
