SOC: 13-2021 Appraisers and Assessors of Real Estate
Appraise real property to determine its fair value. May assess taxes in accordance with prescribed schedules.

Education: Most occupations in this zone require training in vocational schools, related on-the-job experience, or an associate's degree.
OJT: Employees in these occupations usually need one or two years of training involving both on-the-job experience and informal training with experienced workers. A recognized apprenticeship program may be associated with these occupations.
Tasks: Verify legal descriptions of real estate properties in public records. Inspect new and existing properties, noting unique characteristics. Photograph the interior and exterior of properties. Use “comparables,” or similar nearby properties, to help determine value. Prepare written reports on the property value. Prepare and maintain current data on each real estate property.
License: 1. Applicants must meet personal, work experience and educational requirements. Educational courses taken after January 1, 1993 require prior approval by the Board. 2. Complete a state application for specific licensure. 3. Return completed application with transcripts, requests for education credit forms and non-refundable fees to address listed. 4. If all requirements are met, an approval and admission letter for the exam and notification of instructions for scheduling the exam will be forwarded. 5. Pass the examination--satisfactory completion of the exam must occur within twenty-four months of the date the Board approves an application. All appraisers are required to complete 28 hours of continuing education credits every 2 years.
