Examine, analyze, and interpret accounting records for the purpose of giving advice or preparing statements. Install or advise on systems of recording costs or other financial and budgetary data.

Education: Most of these occupations require a four-year bachelor's degree, but some do not.
OJT: Employees in these occupations usually need several years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/or vocational training.
Tasks: Examine financial statements to be sure that they are accurate and comply with laws and regulations. Compute taxes owed, prepare tax returns, and ensure that taxes are paid properly and on time. Inspect account books and accounting systems for efficiency and use of accepted accounting procedures. Organize and maintain financial records. Assess financial operations and make best-practice recommendations to management. Suggest ways to reduce costs, enhance revenues, and improve profits.
License: This applicant should contact the State Board of Public Accountancy for application forms, procedures, and examination schedules. The applicant must pass a computerized examination administered by the Alabama State Board of Public Accountancy or its designee.
